CTI Trains U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Philadelphia

Members of the Philadelphia district of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) completed an intensive two-day SonarWiz.MAP training class held April 5–6, 2006 in Philadelphia. Chesapeake Technology, Inc. (CTI) presented the training designed to increase the participant’s proficiency in using CTI’s SonarWiz.MAP mosaicking software.

“USACE recently purchased SonarWiz.MAP licenses for production of real-time mosaics in the field and for post-processing of data previously collected from various contractors,” explained John Gann, CTI’s Vice President of Software Development and facilitator at the event. “Our goal is to develop customized training that can significantly enhance our software’s benefits to the users.”

The converted tugboat R/V Mike Donlon served as the on-site lab for the eight participants from the USACE. Half of the day was spent aboard the Donlon on the Delaware River collecting real-time mosaic survey data. The balance of the time was spent in the classroom at the USACE Fort Mifflin facility in Philadelphia experiencing hands-on training utilizing the post-processing and publishing features of SonarWiz.MAP.

USACE participants included Carl Cipriani, George Griffith, John Groch, Martin Koski, Bill Miller, Joe Scolari and Greg Shamberger. George and Bill are pictured below aboard the Donlon.

The photograph below shows the SonarWiz.MAP display at the helmsman’s station aboard the Donlon. SonarWiz.MAP’s real-time data acquisition and display is designed to support most sonar systems, plus navigation, fathometer and magnetometer input. It also features automatic gain control, TVG, beam angle correction integrated bottom tracker and navigation editor. Complete post-processing capabilities are also included.
